peter toh - hollywood (2008)

toh just don't stop. our boy's back with another new demo straight off the laptop and into your ears. give this one a listen, it's a different step for him.. but i'm definitely feeling the vibe. more upbeat, more diverse, still dope. get with it.

note to labels out there: pick this album up. this dude is a workhorse with a sincerity in his music that's lacking in most of the "artists" on your collective rosters. if there's anyone you should listen to, it's we wore masks.. bears have better taste than any a&r rep out there.

peter toh - american dream (2008)

peter toh is in the building.. feel him.

our favorite ex the stryder vocalist/guitarist turned solo artist is back with a new demo called "american dream". it's a bedroom/laptop demo that's definitely got some heat and is apparently a further evolution of an earlier demo called "sweaty night". this new demo is all about the chill. mellow and engaging, toh's soulful croon in tact.

give this one a listen, add it to your myspace profile, and get ready for wildlife.. his full length album that will be dropping sooner than a girl that says yes to soon.

our boy will also be dropping the title track from his album in the next week or so, so be prepared for some next level shit. HIDDEN TRACK, HOLLER AT YOUR BEARS FOR SOME EXCLUSIVES.

the stryder

a couple of people have informed me that the link to the stryder album i posted is dead, and have inquired about other stryder releases.. so i figured while i'm uploading, i may as well just remind you of their amazing-ness and do another post with both full lengths.

the stryder were criminally underrated during their time. and since apparently the stryder albums are impossible to find online (at least, not for download).. i'm assuming the same is true today. while i have seen them name dropped on a few message boards, i think it's still safe to say that this is the best band you never gave a chance. fusing elements of post hardcore, hip hop, jazz, indie rock, and whatever else they could get their hands (ears?) on, i really think the stryder had something special going during their brief existence. i know from the first time i heard them on an evr sampler (cassette tape!) in high school, that they could do no wrong in my eyes. and i was right. expanding their sound on their last release, they went out with a bang that no one heard.

peter toh and scottie redex both have their solo projects going on now, and while both are incredible in their own right.. the two stryder full lengths will always have a place in my stereo.

peter toh - missing link (wildlife demo)

our boy toh is at it again.

i'm really starting to get excited for his upcoming full length, wildlife, with every demo he posts. this new track (posted on his myspace) is no exception. "missing link" is about as smooth and natural as it gets. there's a wonderful juxtaposition between a straight forward beat/loop, soulful mid range melodies, and delicate musical intricacies blended throughout the song. dude's really starting to find his stride in the world of art and music. hopefully it's only a matter of time before the music community catches on. tell your friends to put down their akon records and tune them in to a real soulful dude.

peter toh - heroes (new song, 2007)

so in case we didn't make it obvious before, we love peter toh. i honestly believe dude's doing something new and different in underground music (and being the tastemaker i am, i'm pretty sure i'm right). i also think that's why the masses haven't caught on yet. well, they will.. or they'll be missing out. make sure you don't miss out, and check out his new track (called "heroes") he posted last week on his myspace page. it's got so much soul, i'm pretty sure you'll run out of your front door and grind on the first person you see. he also posted a blog entry and bulletin post about us, which we pretty much screamed like little girls about. GET EM TOH.

the stryder

from helping pioneer the long island post hardcore sound, to creating an album full of genre defying hip hop/soul influenced indie rock.. the stryder were quite the innovators during their time. almost completely overlooked in their time, they released two full lenghts and two ep's before calling it quits. if you remember, i made a post about their former lead singer peter toh. former drummer (on masquerade) and guitar player/vocalist (on jungle city) scottie reddix has also gone on to solo greatness, with his soulful project cassonova brown. drummer (on jungle city) durijah lang has gone on to drum in many amazing long island bands, including his current projects saves the day and glassjaw. you seriously won't be disappointed if you download these (especially if you're a drummer.. both albums.. wow). do yourself a favor.

peter toh is straight up about the hustle. the brooklyn native (and former lead singer of equal vision records band the stryder) is constantly updating his myspace, website, and youtube channel with new shit. new demos, videos, and so on.. the man simply doesn't quit. he also co-runs one of the more diverse record labels out, hidden track media. i was going to put up his latest release, the shoes of a beast ep, but instead i'm putting up his hard to come by debut, the cleopatra ep. in addition, i'm posting a few of his recent demos packaged together with the two singles from the shoes of a beast ep. if you like what you hear, i highly, highly recommend going to his myspace page, where you can purchase the ep directly from him for a few bucks. as for what he sounds like, i'll let him tell you:
