h.i.s.d. - summer sessions (2008)

ok, a bit of a strange post. i was watchin' a questlove video blog the other day, and he happened to drop this little group's name. h.i.s.d., short for HUESTON (houston?) INDEPENDENT SPIT DISTRICT.

sidebar: worst. group. name. ever.

anyway, this group's out of my hometown, and it's a collective of twelve emcees who are trying to get their shit poppin. aside from their terrible, terrible name, these dudes really have something going on. i knew that questlove droppin their names couldn't have been a mistake, so i took it upon myself to check it out, and was not disappointed.

anyway, please hit up okayplayer for a download of their mixtape and see what's up. i'm just glad michael 5000 watts and swishahouse isn't the only houston dent in hip-hop.

video: jay-z - live at the palladium (10-15-08)

here's a recap of hova's show last night in hollywood for the re-opening of the palladium. he's in screwston doing the grand opening of the house of blues, and i'm hating every minute of my life knowing i can't go. unfortunately, a $225 dollar ticket is not the most friendly expense for my bank account at this moment, and there wasn't a chance in the world for press to happen.

for anyone who somehow manages to get to the jigga set tonight, i hate you. i hope you have a horrible time when he plays a two hour plus set with a 12-piece backing band and dj am.

click this to catch him and tip doing their thing on "swagga like us."

and head over to miss info to catch a bunch of clips from the show.

p.s. i've spent the last 30 minutes at work watching these.

stadium

H-TOWN REPRESENT.

first of all, with lyrics like i'm coming clean with myself/drinking the whiskey down seems to help, you're gonna score automatic points with alcoholics like roshan and myself.

rising from the ashes of wonderful houston bands the record time, little compass, and the belle curve, stadium are a shining example of music that's going unheard in texas by the rest of the world. i'd riyl them to fans of jimmy eat world, spitalfield, hot rod circuit, and the get up kids. impeccable duel harmonies, big guitars, and bigger hooks.

you can download their debut ep change of plans, we're coming home for 6 bucks on their wonderfully designed myspace page (joon photography/valentone media WHAT UP). in the meantime, here's two songs to get you started. cave in, cave in.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRIZZLY.

so today's roshan's 22nd birthday. everyone should leave sexy comments and send him sexy presents. homeboy loves n00dz (of both genders). i went down to houston for the weekend, and we destroyed our livers (and the livers of our friends). big ups to southside discotech for making me carry his tall ass up a flight of stairs. and big ups to greyhound for saving me gas money that i instead spend on vodka.

since i was in houston all weekend, we were late getting our weekly mux up. it's up now.. and it's a good one, so be sure you're checking that shit out every sunday. it's about the only thing i actually try to do on time in my life.

roshan will be out of town for the next week, so don't expect many updates from him. but in his absence, i'll actually be posting updates. i'll have one or two later tonight, and plenty over the next week.

emily driskill photography

emily driskill is a photographer out of houston, tx. she works with several different mediums, and take photos of bands (promo, live), portraits, and everything in between. personally, i'm a huge fan of her portraits, especially since she has a great eye for all things natural and candid. as far as her resume goes, she's worked with alternative press, worked with a good amount of bands (promo/live), done cover art/layout work for bands (see: bayside, gatsbys american dream, and even hawthorne heights.), and she'll take great portraits of you and your friends. get on it.
