prince klassen remixes (2008)

prince klassen is one of the few local DJs (austin, tx) worth mentioning. also worth mentioning is that he rolls with central booking, which is all sorts of texas DJ win. he comes through here and spins every once in a while, so that's never a bad thing. i just scoped two remixes/edits of his, so grab em.

terminal - how the lonely keep (2005)

so i read this thread on an unnamed forum that i'm hopelessly addicted to and it reminded me about this album. now the circle jerk that's going on in the thread might indicate the best album of all-time, but i don't feel THAT strongly. however, this album is one of the better albums in the genre. straight forward rock with pop sensibilities. travis bryant has a much better range on this project than his latest venture (even though AIWP is one of my fav albums this year) and the fact that a lot of these songs are texas-centric really helps. if you like alive in wild paint and recover circa ceci n'est pas, then you'll love this.

dallas (sorta) in the house!

stadium

H-TOWN REPRESENT.

first of all, with lyrics like i'm coming clean with myself/drinking the whiskey down seems to help, you're gonna score automatic points with alcoholics like roshan and myself.

rising from the ashes of wonderful houston bands the record time, little compass, and the belle curve, stadium are a shining example of music that's going unheard in texas by the rest of the world. i'd riyl them to fans of jimmy eat world, spitalfield, hot rod circuit, and the get up kids. impeccable duel harmonies, big guitars, and bigger hooks.

you can download their debut ep change of plans, we're coming home for 6 bucks on their wonderfully designed myspace page (joon photography/valentone media WHAT UP). in the meantime, here's two songs to get you started. cave in, cave in.

recover - challenger (2003)

this is a recover "album" posted after the release of this may be the year i disappear. it's more of a collection of b-sides and new demos the band had put on their website for free. it has a lot of good songs on it, and this is extremely hard to find.

also, grab ceci n'est pas recover while you're at it, here.

this will destroy you - young mountain (2006)

don't let the aggressive name fool you. TWDY brings a beautiful, cinematic form of post-rock out of texas. sound familiar? that's because it probably is. these 4 dudes hold their own, despite the heavy comparisons to explosions in the sky. in the past year, they've gained a pretty nice following in the post-rock community, and plan to release a new record next year. it's nice to see good bands come out of texas.
